Moving from a 9.3 to a 9.4 product release usually isn’t a big deal. Chances are there are some fixes and a small new feature or two.
The recently released Kaseya VSA 9.4 is different, and the MSP, channel and IT press all took notice of the big changes.
The channel press, which has covered Kaseya extensively in the past year, took particular notice.
Redmond Channel Partner (RCP), which serves the Microsoft solution provider community, saw the VSA 9.4 release as evidence that Kaseya is making all the right moves.
RCP Editor in Chief Scott Bekker noted, “A lengthy and well-run beta testing program that culminated this week in the latest release of Kaseya’s remote monitoring and management (RMM) product, VSA 9.4, is evidence of the company’s newfound focus, says one longtime partner.”
Bekker interviewed a customer that was part of this extensive beta test. “The mojo has completely changed with different management and a renewed focus on customer feedback, and on the whole feedback loop of ‘We have this issue,’ and they’re truly putting their money where their mouth is,” Chris Banta, director of security and automation for Alpharetta, Ga.-based Safe Systems Inc. told Bekker.
Like other channel journalists, Bekker has been following the changes in Kaseya over the past 18 months. Those changes, and the momentum described by Banta, all began a year and a half ago when Fred Voccola took over as Kaseya CEO. Part of the new strategy is to have customers drive product design. “It’s [VSA 9.4] demonstrating the continued commitment to shut up and listen to our customers,” Voccola told Bekker. “It’s the fourth release that we’ve had where we’ve met all of our commitments.”
ChannelE2E also knows Kaseya, and Voccola, well. In an interview with ChannelE2E last November Voccola noted, “Kaseya largely stabilized its business in late 2015 and returned to growth mode in 2016. The company expects to deliver about 50 percent growth in 2017.”
In a VSA 9.4 briefing with ChannelE2E in late January Voccola remained equally upbeat. “VSA 9.4, available on-premises or as a hosted service, arrives at a key time for the company and its MSP partners,” the CEO said.
“Some of Kaseya’s anticipated growth involves new MSPs leveraging the company’s software. But Kaseya will also depend on existing partners consuming more and more of the company’s offerings. A recent Kaseya study on MSP pricing emphasized that the best MSPs are selling a suite of services. Not by coincidence, Kaseya continues to round out its product suite for MSPs,” the website argued.
Finally, Mark Cox, writing for Channelbuzz, asked Voccola what the new rev of the RMM means for MSPs. “Kaseya is about helping our MSPs make money and grow their business,” Voccola told Cox. He adds:
“We know that everybody says that. But we are committed to buying or building companies and products to let MSPs give customers what they want, with the goal of staying 6-18 months ahead of the market. For instance, we came out with a new cloud backup offering, which helps MSP make a lot of money because it’s about 45 percent less expensive than every other offering in the market. That lets MSPs offer the ability to back up everything – not just mission-critical things – at a price that still makes sense for the end customer.”
